About this experience

Þórsmörk valley, a cinematic landscape nestled between two glaciers that offer panoramic views. This destination derives its name from Thor, the Viking God of Thunder. As we make our way to Þórsmörk from the Ring Road, prepare to cross rivers cascading down from the glaciers, showcasing the aftermath of the powerful and rapid flood caused by the eruption of Eyjafjallajökull in April 2010.

Our journey continues to the picturesque Stakkholtsgjá canyon, featuring a waterfall where, if time and mood permit, we will go on a hike. Þórsmörk stands as one of the country's most renowned hiking areas, and standing atop its hills and mountains is a truly breathtaking experience.

On our return from Þórsmörk, we will make a stop at the Seljalandsfoss waterfall and Gljúfrabúi. Price is per vehicle.

Itinerary

  1. Tour stop

Þórsmörk Valley is sheltered on both sides by glaciers which offer great views and quite often a good weather too. It is named after Thor, the Viking God of Thunder. On the way we have to cross raging rivers, both clear water and muddy ones. There we will see the aftermath of the immense fast flowing flood, caused by the eruption of Eyjafjallajökull in April 2010.

  2. Tour stop

This waterfall of the river Seljalandsá drops 60 meters over the cliffs of the former coastline. It is possible to walk behind the waterfall. 500 meters to the North West there is a another beautiful waterfall.

  3. Tour stop

Gljúfrabúi is 40 meters high and partially hidden behind a large cliff which gives it a mystical aura. It can be seen in all it’s splendour by wading the river into a narrow opening in the cliff or by climbing a steep path up the cliff. Both acts can be hazardous so please exercise extreme caution.
