About this experience

Pass by without stopping - Tour stop
Walk through the Almannagjá gorge, where the North American and Eurasian plates are pulling apart, and see where Iceland's parliament first met in 930. The park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Paths are well maintained, with some slopes.
- Tour stop
Walk the Haukadalur geothermal area and watch the Strokkur geyser, which erupts every few minutes. Stay on marked paths; the water and ground nearby are very hot.
- Tour stop
View Gullfoss from the upper and lower viewpoints as the Hvítá river drops in two stages into a deep canyon. Spray can be heavy, so a waterproof jacket is useful.
- Tour stop
See the 60-meter Seljalandsfoss and, when the path is open, walk behind the falls. The path can be wet and slippery and is often closed in winter. Waterproof clothing is recommended.
- Tour stop
Stand at the base of Skógafoss, a 60-meter waterfall where rainbows often form on sunny days. A steep staircase beside the falls leads to a viewpoint at the top for those who want the climb.
- Tour stop
Walk the black sand beach near Vík, with basalt columns and the Reynisdrangar sea stacks offshore. Sneaker waves are dangerous here: stay well back from the water and follow your guide's instructions. Then return to Reykjavik.
