About this experience
Travel from Reykjavik to Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon and Diamond Beach in one long private day, with the South Coast's best waterfalls along the way. Ideal for travelers who want to see the icebergs without an overnight stay.
After an early pickup, stop at Seljalandsfoss and Gljúfrabúi, Skógafoss and Reynisfjara black sand beach. Continue east to watch icebergs drift across Jökulsárlón, then walk among ice pieces on Diamond Beach before the drive back.
Expect 14 to 16 hours, with about ten hours of driving. In winter much of the drive is in darkness. Your driver-guide adjusts stops to weather, roads and daylight, and adds Kvernufoss or Dyrhólaey when time allows. Meals are paid locally.

Itinerary
- Tour stop
After an early pickup in Reykjavik, travel east along the South Coast to Jökulsárlón and back with your private driver-guide. This is a very long day, with about ten hours of driving. Stop order and times may change with weather, roads and daylight; in winter much of the drive is in darkness. Meals are paid locally. See the 60-meter Seljalandsfoss and, when the path is open, walk behind the falls. The path can be wet and slippery and is often closed in winter.
- Tour stop
A short walk from Seljalandsfoss, Gljúfrabúi falls inside a narrow canyon. Step through the opening or view it from the path above. Expect spray.
- Tour stop
Stand at the base of the 60-meter Skógafoss, where rainbows often form on sunny days, or climb the staircase to the viewpoint at the top.
- Tour stop
When time and daylight allow: a short walk through a small valley near Skógar leads to Kvernufoss, a quieter waterfall you can walk behind.
- Tour stop
When time and daylight allow: view the sea arch and coastline from the Dyrhólaey headland. Puffins nest here roughly from May to August; access can be restricted during nesting season.
- Tour stop
Walk the black sand beach with basalt columns and the Reynisdrangar sea stacks. Sneaker waves are dangerous here: stay well back from the water and follow your guide's instructions.
- Tour stop
Watch icebergs that have broken off Breiðamerkurjökull, part of Vatnajökull, drift across the lagoon. Seals are often seen between the ice. Boat tours are not included.
- Tour stop
Across the road from the lagoon, pieces of ice wash up on the black sand. Then begin the drive back to Reykjavik.
